SureNotes does not collect anything. Your songs, charts, setlists, shows, annotations and backing tracks stay on your iPad. There is no account to create, no server to sign in to, and no analytics.
SureNotes is a music-chart app for iPad, made by Van David Jones. This policy explains what happens to your information when you use it.
Nothing.
SureNotes has no user accounts, no login, and no telemetry. The app contains no analytics, advertising, attribution, or crash-reporting software, and includes no third-party code libraries.
We do not receive your music library, your setlists, your annotations, your usage patterns, or any identifier for you or your device. We could not identify you as a user of SureNotes even if asked to.
Everything you add to SureNotes — songs, chart files, setlists, shows, ink annotations, bookmarks, backing tracks — is stored in the app's own storage on your iPad.
It is included in your device's own backups (iCloud Backup or a computer backup), because that is how iPadOS backs up apps. Those backups belong to you and are governed by Apple's terms, not ours. We have no access to them.
SureNotes can export a backup file of your library. Where that file goes is entirely your choice — Files, iCloud Drive, Google Drive, a USB drive, or anywhere else the iPadOS share sheet offers.
Once you place a backup somewhere, that location's own privacy policy applies to it. We never see the file and it is never sent to us.
SureNotes asks for three permissions, each used for one specific feature and nothing else.
| Permission | Used for | What happens to the data |
|---|---|---|
| Camera | Scanning paper charts into your library | Images are processed on-device and saved into your library. Nothing is uploaded. |
| Microphone | The built-in tuner detecting pitch | Audio is analysed in real time to detect pitch. It is never recorded, stored, or transmitted. |
| Calendar | Adding a show date when you tap “Add to Calendar” | An event is written to your calendar. We do not read your calendar. |
You can decline or revoke any of these in iOS Settings. Declining disables only the specific feature it powers; the rest of SureNotes works normally.
Subscriptions and in-app purchases are processed entirely by Apple. We never see your name, payment details, or billing address.
Apple tells the app whether a valid purchase exists so features can be unlocked. That check happens between your device and Apple. Apple's handling of your purchase is covered by Apple's Privacy Policy.
SureNotes does not make network requests. The app contains no networking code.
The only time SureNotes causes anything to leave your iPad is when you tap a link that opens Safari — for example the user guide on this website. At that point you are browsing the web normally, and your browser's usual behaviour applies.
SureNotes is a tool for working musicians and is not directed at children. We do not knowingly collect information from anyone, of any age, because we do not collect information at all.
Privacy laws such as the GDPR and CCPA give you rights to access, correct, export, or delete personal data a company holds about you.
We hold none. There is nothing for us to disclose, correct, or delete, because nothing ever reaches us. Your content is yours, on your device: you can export it at any time using the app's backup feature, and delete it by deleting the app or its contents.
If SureNotes ever starts handling data differently, we will update this policy and change the “Last updated” date above before that version ships. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
Planned change worth knowing about: a future version of SureNotes will add optional band collaboration, letting you share a band's library with other members through Apple's iCloud. When that ships, shared content will leave your device — travelling through your iCloud account to the people you invite.
That is a real change to how your content moves, and this policy will be updated to describe it before that feature is released. The current version of SureNotes does not do this.
